I took my 7 year old grandson fishing for his 1st time ever, his mum and dad thought that it had been a good idea to buy him a fishing set, a cheap-ish fresh water fishing set up. Neither of them had ever fished before but they knew that I had (50 years ago) and said to Oliver (grandson) that I would take him. I knew that a licence was required for fresh water fishing so I decided to take him sea fishing instead (no licence required) ... I also had to buy some fishing gear for this trip. The day arrived and Oliver and I headed to what was my favorite sea fishing spot all those years ago, to my surprise nothing much had changed so we set up ready. I showed hime what I was doing which included the worm (black sea worm) going onto the hook. These worms were big, far too big to go onto the small hook, sadly they had to be cut in half. This done I threaded the 'half' worm onto the hook, at this point Oliver said "It couldn't get much worse for the worm could it? It has been dug up wrapped in news paper, cut in half and put onto a hook" I said no you're right but thinking that we are now going to fling it through the air to land in the sea so that a passing fish can gorge on it. In between Oliver managed to catch a decent size crab and heaven knows how a small rock. He also landed the only fish of the day, a lovely big flounder. We set the fish free.
